Each lot is sampled at sourcing and again before loading. Shipments travel with commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, fumigation certificate and the relevant test report. Pre-shipment inspection by a third party can be arranged.
The figure is the share of clean cumin seed by weight. The rest is stalks, other seeds and dust. 98% is the standard commercial grade, 99% is often called Singapore quality and 99.5% Europe quality. A higher grade has been cleaned and colour-sorted more, and costs more.
Cumin is a winter crop in Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is harvested from February to April, and new-crop seed reaches the market from March. Prices are usually most settled in the months after the harvest.
